Mata Hari
Mata Hari, released by Bally in 1978, is one of the top 10 most produced pinball machines of all time. While primarily released as a solid state game, a small number of electro-mechanical versions were produced.
A classic playfield design featuring drop targets, a kickout hole, and end of ball bonus, Mata Hari is one of the more well-known games in pinball history, especially as the EM era gave way to the solid state dominance of the 80's and beyond.
Interestingly, the theme of the game is loosely based upon the legend of Mata Hari, aka Margaretha Zelle (1876-1917) who was known as a popular exotic dancer during the early 20th century. She was eventually accused and convicted of “Consorting with the Enemy” during World War I, which led to her being executed by firing squad.
